Jordan Burstion

Jordan is a former business analyst (Capital One) turned 7th grade teacher and 5-star rated tutor. She is a proud graduate of Duke University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with a certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship. During her college admissions journey, she was admitted to 6 Ivy League institutions, awarded over $500,000 in merit scholarships, and now enjoys helping students overcome test anxiety, amplify their talents, and achieve their goals with confidence.

Her previous tutoring and mentorship experience include founding Girls L.E.A.D. (Learn. Empower. Act. Dream.), providing bi-lingual chemistry tutoring to her school's foreign exchange student, mentoring members of the Fayetteville Cumberland Youth Council, serving as a college advisor for the Ron Brown Scholar Program, and guiding 43 families through the college admission process through her Jumpstart College Prep online course.

Currently, Jordan enjoys teaching at Wake Technical Community College and designing the academy’s upcoming workshops and camps.

 

Carlton Johnson (Duke ‘20)

Carlton is a beloved tutor and mentor with several years of experience in pediatric neurological research in medical settings as well as experience in cognitive neuroscience and clinical psychology research.

He’s assisted in projects involving spina bifida, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, drug addiction, ADHD and adolescent psychopathology, and is excited to help your scholar achieve their academic and professional goals.

Bruny Kenou

Bruny graduated with a bachelor’s of science in Neuroscience with minors in Psychology and Chemistry. She is a top-rated mentor and tutor with research expertise in therapeutic neuroscience and adolescent mental health. During her college application journey, she applied to 40 colleges and got into more than half of them, including a full merit scholarship to Duke University. As a scientist and admitted medical student, Bruny enjoys mentoring students and awakening their love for math, science, sociology, and more through varying methods of experimental learning.

Bruny’s mentorship and tutoring experience includes her time tutoring and coordinating educational initiatives in Durham as Chair of the education committee of Duke’s NAACP, mentoring children of Hispanic descent in English and Math at El Centro Hispano, and mentoring through the Biomedical Mentorship Program in PG County, Maryland. She also served as the tutoring coordinator of the program where she matched students in the program with tutors at no cost.  Bruny’s focus on the mental health of your scholar combined with her willingness to diversify teaching methods to optimize learning for your scholar makes her a stand-out tutor.

Nia Robinson

Nia Robinson recently graduated as salutatorian of the Orange County High School class of 2022. In the fall, she will attend Duke University with intended majors of mathematics and computer science. Nia has always had a strong interest in math, and enjoys tutoring people who want to better understand math. She has experience tutoring sixth through eighth-grade math, algebra I, geometry, and algebra II. She is excited to help your scholar!

Chinelo “Chichi” Agwegbo

Chinelo is a student at Duke University where she is dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and working with students in ways that better their educational and personal pursuits. She has collaborated with professionals within the social work, research, and human resources fields to advance conversations on mental health. She has 8 years of experience tutoring and mentoring students and looks forward to meeting your scholar!

Kathy Badillo

Kathy Badillo brings her extensive experience as a vice principal, dean of discipline, enrollment director, teacher, coach, and club leader at her alma mater in New Jersey. She holds a BA in English with a minor in African American Studies from Seton Hall University and MS in Education (Teacher Leadership and Curriculum Design) from Walden University.

In addition, she is currently working on her second MS in Education from the University of Notre Dame (Administration and Supervision; Catholic Leadership). Kathy is bilingual and teaches English as a second Language as well.

 

Christopher Wickware (Duke ’19)

Chris graduated with a B.S. in Neuroscience with minors in Chemistry and Biology. He currently is a Research Technician in Duke’s neurology department and works in a lab studying the role of TRP channels in migraines. He previously worked in a lab that processes donated Umbilical Cord Blood for transfusions in individuals with weakened immune systems in need of hematopoietic reconstitution. With his love of science, Chris is looking to foster the abilities, talents, and enthusiasm for the sciences in students and improve his mentees’ confidence in their academic and professional goals.

Previous tutoring experience includes EOG test preparation for 8th grade mathematics and volunteering with Families Moving Forward in Durham.

Andrew Phillips

Andrew loves listening, learning, and helping others live their strengths. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University, Andrew has worked as a teaching and research assistant, a case manager, and a pastor to youth and young adults. He is delighted to meet you, learn what drives you, and support you with the skills and resources you need to do your best work and be your best self.

Brooklyn Hollimon

Brooklyn Hollimon is a sophomore at the University of Chicago studying Statistics. She has a strong interest in tutoring in Math and Physics, and has prior tutoring experience with 9th and 10th graders in Algebra and Geometry through her school’s National Honors Society program. She thoroughly enjoys helping others with STEM subjects as well as ACT preparation, and is looking forward to helping your scholar!

Elizabeth Wilson

A recent graduate in the top 1% of Discovery High School’s 2022 graduating class, Elisabeth was able to broaden her impact as she founded the school’s Black Student Union, and acted as Vice President of both the National Honor Society and National Beta Club. She also researched the existence and effect of restorative justice practices on youth enrolled in both Title-I and non-Title-I schools in Gwinnett County. Through this, Elisabeth realized her passion for leveling the playing field for all children to ensure that they’re equipped with the necessary resources to achieve academic and social success.

As for her future endeavors, one can expect to see Elisabeth on the campus of Howard University as a Freshman Biology major(H-U, you know!). She hopes to one day become an orthodontist and be a witness to the transformative experience teeth and jaw correction can have on one’s confidence.

Candace Walker

Candace is a recent high school graduate from Whitewater Highschool in Fayetteville, Georgia. She graduated in the 99.07 percentile (top 3) and in the National Honor Society. In high school, Candace created and presided over the Creative Writing Club which collaborated with the Art club to make their own collection of children's books called "PatchWork Stories". Candace was a 4 year Varsity Volleyball player, but she puts education first.

Candace will be attending Wesleyan University, a small liberal arts college in Connecticut, and is prospectively majoring in Film and Chinese. She took 12 AP classes throughout high school and would love to help you in her best subjects. Candace has years of experience in enriching kids life through volunteer daycare (6 years), coaching 12 and under volleyball (3 years), and mentoring elementary school kids (1 year).

Caden Nixt

Caden is a first-year at the University of Chicago, studying neuroscience, with aspirations of becoming a physician. He is very passionate about healthcare accessibility and equity. During his time in high school he has served in numerous leadership capacities such as on Student Council and as Vice President of his school's HOSA chapter. He graduated in the top 5% of his class, and has received various awards for excellence in academics and extracurriculars, one of which being tennis. Tennis has played a huge role in his life. As a former captain, and now teaching professional, Caden enjoys sharing the knowledge he has gained with his students and watching their hard work blossom.

Caden has experience tutoring with his high school’s National Honor Society and has taught tennis to students ages 5-18. Caden is incredibly invested in mentorship and is eager to meet students where they are and help them foster a love of learning and confidence in their ability.

Channel Mateo

Channel is a sophomore studying health science at Boston University. She aspires to pursue a career in public health to dismantle health care discrimination against minority women. She graduated with one of the highest GPAs in her high school (3.98) whilst nurturing a passion for dance. Elizabeth Williams 

Elizabeth is a highly experienced tutor in a variety of subjects, ranging from the sciences and humanities to fine arts and public speaking. She graduated as the valedictorian of her high school’s STEM academy and is now in her second-year at the University of Chicago majoring in neuroscience and business economics on the pre-med track. Elizabeth has conducted research in fields such as education, policy, and international relations, and holds an Associate’s Degree in Math and Science. She loves working with youth and is passionate about teaching core subjects and developing foundational skills for success. 

During high school, Elizabeth was a member of the National Honor Society, through which she was a teaching assistant for middle school math classes and helped tutor history students. She also helped coach public speaking, and has tutored in advanced music theory while studying at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege. As a college student, she has been involved with a variety of teaching initiatives, including music lessons and college mathematics. Elizabeth is a dedicated and adaptable tutor and is looking forward to working with your scholar!
