Our Mission

At the Burstion Academy of Excellence we inspire our students to dream bigger and empower them with one-of-a-kind tutoring and coaching resources to help them achieve their unique goals. Families come to us when they want to expand their village of mentors for their children, and we’re committed to creating opportunities that help our students become more mindful, compassionate, and impactful.

Our growing team of tutors include: an Ivy League alumni, a former NHI researcher and med school student, a school principal, valedictorians and salutatorians, a former pastor and case manager, entrepreneurs, a former pediatric neurological researcher and social work student, a former analyst and certified teacher. We’re excited to hire inspirational and caring leaders to serve as private tutors for our growing roster of students.

New Hire Onboarding

Step 1: Reserve a one-on-one onboarding session so one of our team members can walk you through steps 2 and 3 below. Please read the overview of steps 2 and 3 below to ensure you’re prepared to complete the onboarding steps in a timely manner. Click here to reserve an onboarding session.

Step 2: Set Up Your Booking Calendar.  In this step you’ll create a booking calendar via Calendly, so students can reserve a session without spending precious time going back and forth about availability. To expedite this process you’ll want to make sure you remember your log-in information for your current email/calendar service (i.e. Gmail, iCloud).

In preparation for this step you’ll also want to consider your ideal “Working Hours”.

Working Hours Tips:

  • Remember students are in school during the day, so evenings and weekends are most popular.

  • To encourage repeat customers throughout the week offer at least two work days with a day or two in between i.e. Monday & Wednesdays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

  • Don’t make yourself available every day of the week. TAKE DAYS OFF.

  • In the beginning, offer less availability and open up more hours on your calendar as demand increases.

  • Demand is cyclical and drops off during holidays.

  • You’re only compensated for time spent with a student so don’t take on subjects that would require you “refresh”, “lesson plan” or “prep”.

You may refer to the notes below during your onboarding session and copy and paste the following content into your Calendly Event settings.

Step 3. Set Up Direct Deposit. You’re paid on Fridays via Direct Deposit, we currently use Gusto as our payroll processor. All tutors are considered independent contractors. As an independent contractor you have the flexibility to pick your own hours and are responsible for setting aside a part of your wages for taxes. In the Spring, you’ll receive a 1099-NEC Form which reports wages earned this year, and can be used to file taxes.

During your onboarding session you will complete a W-9 Form and set up direct deposit with your preferred bank. See example screenshots below. To expedite this process please remember your log-in credentials for your preferred bank.

Each week you will submit your timesheet using the Payroll Calendar below.

How to Submit Your Timesheet

Filter your Calendly Scheduled Events to the Pay Period you’d like to be compensated for; see the example below. Print to PDF and email the file to support@burstionacademy.org with “Timesheet_FirstName_LastName_#HoursTutored” in the subject. Update the # to actual number of hours tutored. Do not round.

Step 4: Complete Your Bio. Our students are referred to tutors based on fit and availability. Please send an email to support@burstionacademy.org with the following information.

  • Full Name

  • Short Bio and Preferred Subjects (see examples here Our Team )

  • Favorite Photo

  • Link to your Calendly Booking Page (We will work on this together in Step 2)

Once the above onboarding steps are completed you’ll begin receiving referral emails connecting new students to you! The referral emails will include helpful information and resources to start your tutoring journey.
